DRS Technologies Awarded Contract to Provide Mission-Critical Communications System for U.S. Navy Aegis Cruisers and Destroyers

ARLINGTON, VA, April 15, 2015 ̶ DRS Technologies Inc., a Finmeccanica Company, announced today that it has won a contract to provide modernized integrated voice communications systems (IVCS) for U.S. Navy AEGIS cruisers and destroyers. The performance-based contract awarded by the Navy has a potential value of up to $55 million.
The IVCS is a computer-controlled telephone system that consists of two interconnected interior-communications switching centers, dial terminals, network terminals, terminal accessories and associated cabling. The system can be connected to a ship’s announcing system, shore telephone lines, radio communications and certain battle sound-powered telephone circuits.

The solution leverages the DRS Secure Voice System with a commercial, off-the-shelf Avaya Aura® Communication Manager unified communications platform provided by Avaya Government Solutions, and a proven, qualified electronics rack and power distribution system from Dynalec Corporation.
Avaya Government Solutions Sales Vice President Susan Pompliano Keys added, “IVCS represents another important step by the Navy to establish common systems across multiple ships in the fleet in order to lower costs and simplify both logistics and training. We’re delighted to join with our partners at DRS and Dynalec in supporting such a critical initiative.”
DRS is already a key supplier for the Cruiser and Destroyer AEGIS Modernization Secure Voice System ON-740, which is a mission-critical, tactical communications system supporting command and control operations on the ship. DRS delivered the ICVS systems to the DDG 51 new ship construction and AEGIS modernization DDG 51 Destroyers and CG 47 Cruisers under a 2009-2014 prior contract.
Installation of the IVCS is expected to begin this year.

RADA and DRS Technologies Team for The North American AESA Radar Market
Netanya, Israel, 31 March 2015, RADA Electronic Industries of Netanya, Israel announced today that it has signed a strategic teaming agreement with DRS Technologies, Inc. to bring RADA’s tactical active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar technology into the North American market.
Under this agreement, DRS will market, sell, produce and support tactical AESA radars as part of its tactical radar portfolio. The combination of RADA’s technology along with DRS market presence, customer awareness, engineering, and production capabilities is expected to produce significant interest in the North American defense industry market.

RADA Radar Selected by Lockheed Martin for Laser Weapon Research Projects
Netanya, Israel, 23 March 2015, RADA Electronic Industries Ltd. announces the selection by Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company of its Multi-Mission Hemispheric Radar (MHR) to support internally funded high energy laser weapon system prototype testing. The radar will be used by Lockheed Martin in combination with other sensors.
The MHR - an S-Band, Software-Defined, Pulse-Doppler, Active Electronically Scanned Array radar - has sophisticated beam forming capabilities and advanced signal processing, provides multiple missions on each radar platform, and offers unprecedented performance-to-price ratio. It is compact and mobile, delivering ideal organic, tactical surveillance solutions for force and border protection applications such as counter rockets and mortars, counter unmanned aerial systems, ground moving target indicator, air surveillance, and more.
